Maya Delany graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. from Mount Holyoke College, completing a self-designed major in American Studies, incorporating Sociology, History, English, and Politics departments at Mount Holyoke College and the American Studies department at Amherst College, paired with a 5-College Film Studies minor that included classes at both Smith College and Mount Holyoke College. She has several years of experience with non-profit administrative work, customer service, and a year of experience working in the film industry.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Amnesty International, Write for Rights Assistant | August 2018 – Present (7 month temporary position)
  • Serves as the coordinator for all aspects of Amnesty USA’s Write for Rights campaign, including knowledge of the cases; writing and producing materials, online and off; engaging new and existing supporters to join Write for Rights, including educators; attending several of Amnesty USA’s Regional Conferences to help sign up people for Write for Rights; and helping develop the strategy for the campaign.
  • Ensures that AIUSA has effective and efficient processes for collecting and reporting data on the number of letters and other actions taken during Write for Rights.
  • Provides support to Write for Rights participants, including activists, educators, Amnesty groups and other staff, by answering questions, providing information and resolving problems
330 Walter & Walter Pictures, Office Manager & Coordinator | July 2017 – July 2018
  • Giving tours of the 3-floor co-working space to potential new tenants, drawing up sublease agreements, drafting invoices in QuickBooks, assisting with tenants’ moving in and out
  • Performing receptionist duties: greeting and directing visitors and guests, coordinating deliveries, processing conference room booking requests, running office errands and purchasing office supplies, addressing all IT needs
  • Communicating tenant messages and requests to co-working space owner and building maintenance staff; designing and implementing office policies to maintain smooth day-to-day interactions
  • Performing bookkeeping tasks, in addition to preparing and running monthly payroll
  • Assisting with project proposal construction and research, reading scripts, and writing coverage

Mount holyoke college’s speaking, arguing, and writing (SAW) center, receptionist & scheduling receptionist | January 2014 – May 2017
  • Managing the online schedule when SAW mentors request work shift changes; responding consistently, and frequently, to emails in order to prevent issues while the center is running
  • Working together with mentors and program director to resolve any scheduling conflicts that may arise; communicating with clients to make appropriate appointments for them
  • Welcoming mentees to the SAW Center and introducing them to their SAW mentors

  • Compiled and formatted 3-5 urgent cases’ information into alerts that were sent out to AIUSA’s Urgent Action Network and communicated with US activists in order to log the actions taken into our UAN database
  • Researched targets and potential allies for AIUSA’s campaign strategy on 2 focus cases to assist IAR’s senior campaigner
  • Created a database and conducted outreach to teachers across the United States for Amnesty International’s annual Write for Rights campaign
